In Celebration of

Joan Marie Ann Nicholson

December 10, 1940 -  July 19, 2025

Joan Marie Nicholson (nee Power) passed away at the age of 84 due to cancer on July 19, 2025. She passed away peacefully at Ian Anderson House while holding her husband Robert’s hand. Beloved wife to Robert (Bob) Nicholson, mother to Pearl (Ken), Cheryl (Robert), Edward (Carrie) and Robert Jr.(Anne); grandmother to Melissa (Joshua), Alexander (Anne), Caitlin, Brent, Jacob (McKenzie), Sydney, Sarah (Anthony) and Emma (William); and great grandmother to Eleanor, Kathrine, Faith and Asher. Joan faced her death as she’d lived her life; with courage, strength and humour surrounded by the love of her family.

Joan was born in Newfoundland On Dec 10, 1940 to Michael and Anne Power. When Joan was 3, her family moved to Toronto where she grew up. She met Robert while working as a waitress at Woolworth’s and they fell in love and were married. After 68 years of marriage Joan and Bob’s relationship was inspirational to all. Their commitment to each other and deep love brought them through the many challenges of life.

Joan’s ingenuity and administrative skills allowed her to work in various positions and industries. She retired after working with her youngest son Robert at Springfield Graphics for twenty-five years in the printing industry. Joan loved to cook, loved sports and the outdoors. Joan had many hobbies and interests including golfing, lawn bowling, 10 pin bowling and camping. Joan and Bob enjoyed long walks and hikes throughout their marriage.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. Thomas à Becket Anglican Church (3535 South Common Court, Mississauga, L5L 2B3) on August 21st at 11:00 am. There will be time afterwards to have refreshments and share your favourite memories of Joan with her other friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Ian Anderson House or Credit Valley Hospital, (please see links below under Make a Donation) the places that provided care and comfort to Joan and Bob in the final months of Joan’s life.

My deepest condolences to Uncle Bob, and my cousins Pearl, Cheryl, Eddie and Bobby. So many fun times with Aunt Joanie. What a contagious laugh! We did not get to see you a lot, maybe once or twice a year, but every instance was memorable. Love and best wishes, Wayne.

Ann Marie Condon (Aunt, sister of Kevin Power who was my father)

Entered August 4, 2025 from Peachland, British Columbia

Since my fathers passing, I had the privilege of having regular phone conversations with Aunt Joan. She always made me feel like I was still part of the "Power" Clan even though I live out in B C and have lost contact with my other relatives in Ontario. She made me feel welcome when I my father passed and I stayed with her and Uncle Bob. When there was a fire in B C, I always tried to alleviate her concerns about whether we were close to the fire by calling her first. She made me laugh with her lovely sense of humour and I will miss her dearly. She was certainly someone that will be missed by all. I love you Aunt Joan...until we meet again.
