Joan Margaret Howes

August 11, 1921 -  March 13, 2018

Peacefully, at home, on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at the age of 96. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Edwin Howes. Joan Howes, nee Tweddle was born in Colchester, England on August 11, 1921. Joan was raised in Gerrards Cross and trained as a physiotherapist during the Blitz in London. It was an exciting and frightening time for Joan. After the war Joan had another exciting time when she moved to Canada. She started out working as a physio in British Columbia and even though she later traveled the world with her husband Ed she always held that part of Canada dear. Ed and Joan met after she moved to Toronto and started working at the hospital that was to become The Holland Center. It was here that she met Dr. Edwin Howes who was employed at the same hospital. After her marriage, Joan spent many years as a volunteer in the same hospital. She and Ed enjoyed their traveling and their cottage. She was a gifted craftsperson and gardener. Joan lived a long and happy life and will be missed by her family and friends. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., at Windermere, east of the Jane subway, on Friday from 3-5 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 3 p.m. If desired, remembrances may be made to Bloor West Village Baptist Church or Sunnybrook Hospital.
