Jill passed peacefully on February 7th at Credit Valley Hospital.
Daughter of Gladys and Arthur Ridley, she is survived by her husband Edward, son David and his wife Virginia, daughter Jennifer and her husband Robert, grandson Alexander and his wife Brittney, grandson Benjamin and granddaughter Emily. She leaves surviving sisters Wendy and Virginia, and surviving brother Steven, and a much loved extended family in both Canada and England.
Jill and Edward emigrated to Canada in January 1962, just days after being married in England. There, they joined Jill’s sister, Avril (Muff), her brother, Alan and his wife Marie in building a new life, and a new home, far from where they were born.
She was a loving wife, and loving and careful mother as well as a dedicated aunt, great-aunt and grandmother.
Jill worked at the Synod Office for the Anglican Diocese of Toronto for over a quarter of a century, starting in 1976. She performed a variety of functions in the Bishop’s Office, but primarily first as the secretary for Archdeacon Roland Hill, and later as the secretary for Bishop Terence Finlay.
She was an expert handcrafter dedicated to sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She created beautiful hand knitted outfits (including knickers, which was very important to Jill) for dolls that she gifted to the new moms in her extended family. That gave her so much joy. Packing for a cruise always included a new project. She often donated her creations to charity, and literally dozens of knitted bears went to “Teddies for Tragedies” and later for fundraising drives at The Village of Erin Meadows, where she lived in her final years.
