In Celebration of

Jerome Custodio Fernandez

November 21, 1924 -  August 12, 2025

With heavy hearts, we share the sad news that on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at approximately 1:50 pm, our Dad, Jerome (Jerry) Fernandez, in his 101st year, secured his heavenly flight aboard Pan Am to his final destination.

Joseph Fernandez and Maria Severina were the proud, doting parents of their only treasured Son, Jerome. Pre-deceased by his wife, Sheila Fernandez and survived by his loving children, Loretta (Keith), Cassandra, Bryan (Helen). Devoted Gramps to his grandchildren, Bradley (Tiffany), Brett (Rachelle), Trevor (Heather Ann) and Rachel (Ralph). Cherished Great Gramps to his Great Grandchildren, Liam, Milana and Noah. Pre-deceased by his siblings, Effie, Anne, Rose and Joan. Survived by his beloved sister, Priscilla. Dad will be fondly remembered by his extensive family members, golfing buddies and his large circle of friends as a consummate gentleman. He was generous, humorous, grounded by faith, and loved his Guinness Beer and Feni.

Dad’s passion was always in travel. He was the District Sales Manager for Pan American in Lahore, Pakistan for 25 prosperous years. In December 1972 our family immigrated to Canada for a better life. In 1973 he launched Able Travel in Toronto, Canada and was most gratified that his family-owned travel agency, is a successful, high caliber travel service business with a stellar reputation for over 50 years.

When Dad was not enjoying time with his family, he was happiest playing on golf courses all over the world, especially Markland Woods. He proudly remembered often his best game at Glen Abbey where he shot a hole-in-one! At 99, he was still playing a good game of golf!

Dad was also an avid painter. He signed up for some art classes to perfect his craft and for the past 10 years created some masterpieces!

Our sincere appreciation to the staff at Credit Valley Hospital for their kind, thoughtful end of life care and compassion to our Dad.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Dear Loretta, Cassandra, Bryan and families:

I am so sorry to hear that your dad passed away. The last of The Old Guard (Derrick Braganza, Joe Fernandes, Tony D’Cruz and Jerome Fernandez).

I have fond memories of Jerry and Sheila since I was a little girl as he worked with my dad in Pan American World Airways from 1948 to 1975 when my father retired and came to Canada.

He and Sheila were always very generous. Whenever they came to visit they always brought chocolates for us kids and when he was transferred to Lahore he never forgot to send my dad Lahore’s specialty “salted tongue” every Christmas.

He was always a very upbeat person often whistling “Enjoy Yourself” a song popular in the 1950’s which reflected him to a “T”.

As the eldest and only son he took care of his family and to his many nieces and nephews he was always “Uncle Jerry”. If you ever needed a favour, you could always count on Jerry.

He enjoyed a long life and is now with his beloved Sheila. May God grant him eternal peace and may He give you all the strength to bear this loss.

My deepest sympathies,
Ramona Fernandes and family
