It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jeanne Burkimsher on February 23, 2024 in her 89th year. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years Tom. Loving mother to Tom (Pat) and Nancy (Bob). Cherished ”Nana” to Burke, Rachel, Katie, Sarah and Calvin. Special sister-in-law of Ross, Linda and Judy. Dear sister to Giselle and Madeline. Predeceased by her parents Charles and Cecile Groleau, and siblings Rollande (Rosaire Mongrain), Marcelle (Julien Massicotte), Leo (Sylvia), Bella (Marcel Normadin), and Carlo Ruggieri. Also predeceased by her in–laws Tom and Kathleen (nee Southby) and stepmother Lillian, sisters Shirley (Bill McBride) and Susan (Tom Robb).
The family greatly appreciates the love and care that she received, especially in the last few years, from her life-long friend Lucille Roy. Jeanne had been diagnosed with dementia from Alzheimer’s Disease several years ago but Tom insisted on keeping her at home and they celebrated their 60th anniversary on July 1, 2021. Later that year Jeanne had to move to long-term care as Tom began his own battle with cancer, a fight he lost in April of 2022.
Jeanne was a Registered Nurse, the first in her family to receive a post-secondary education. She used her nursing diploma to travel and learn English. Jeanne loved to sew and knit was also a keen gardener. She loved to sit in her front garden and visit with family and her friends from the neighbourhood.
