Jaroslaw Kowal

April 12, 1930 -  November 5, 2022

Jaroslaw passed away in Mississauga on November 5, 2022, at the age of 92. Beloved husband of 35 years to Ulana Steck. Survived by his daughters Christine Cahute and Daria Kowal and his grandchildren Slawko Borys and Arian Borys.

Jaroslaw was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine. He immigrated to Canada in 1951. He was a sportsman and enjoyed soccer and golf. He was also a community activist supporting the Toronto Ukrainian community.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Neweduk Chapel, 1981 Dundas St. W. Mississauga on Thursday from 5-8 p.m.; panachyda 7 p.m. Funeral Rite will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022 at 10 a.m. at St. Demetrius Orthodox Church on Lakeshore. Interment Sanctuary Park Cemetery with a luncheon to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation.

Дорогенька цьоцю,
прийміть мої найщиріші співчуття. Така сумна звістка в такий тяжкий час! Я не можу повірити, що вуйка Славка немає вже посеред нас. Він назавжди залишиться у моїх спогадах чудовою людиною. Саме вуйко замінив на моєму весіллі мого тата, який нажаль не дожив до такої важливої для мене події. Вуйко Славко відвів мне до престолу у церкві і передав моєму чоловікові. Це було для мене дуже зворушливо. Я була дуже щаслива, що не тільки моя мама але і Ви були присутні на весіллі. Я впевнена, що вуйко був щасливим чоловіком, бо велику частину свого життя мав поруч Вас. Я знаю як болить втрата рідної людини. Я бачила, як моя мама тяжко переживала смерть тата. Ми всі розуміємо, що життєвий шлях колись закінчується, і це є природним. Бо все, що має початок має кінець. Але серце не хоче з цим змиритися.
Вуйкові Славкові царства небесного, Вам сили перенести цю велику втрату. Я обіймаю вас міцно міцно. У моїх думках і молитвах я завжди з Вами.

Dear Ulana;
Please accept our heartfelt sympathies on the loss of Slawko. He was truly a very nice, and wonderful man. We enjoyed his laughter and his genuine involvement in the Ukrainian Community, especially with YHO and camp Sokil and I enjoyed working with him throughout my years as Komandanka of the camp. Vichnaya Yomu Pamyat.

Dearest Pani Ulana,

Please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of your husband and life partner. What devastating news! When we spoke 10 days ago or so, you mentioned that he was on a downward trajectory. Hopefully he transitioned peacefully, and will now rest is the bosom of God’s Eternal Kingdom. Вічна йому пам’ять.

I know everything is very fresh for you right now, and no doubt you are overwhelmed with details and calls. I wish you much strength during this time. If you need anything at all, please feel free to reach out to me. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
