It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Janine Marie Atkinson on February 5th, 2026, after a long and difficult fight with liver disease.

Janine will forever be cherished in the hearts of her husband, Andrew, and children, Amanda and Liam. Momma to fur babies Bailey, Norman, Sheldon, and Juno. Daughter of Joseph and Stephania Szwarc, sister to Richard and wife Anne. Aunt to Chantel and Brittney, Sister-in-law to Bill and Kristina, Michael and Zina, and Kathleen and Martin. Aunt to Jessica and Cassidy, Hayley and Ryan, Samantha and Emily, and friend to more than can be imagined.

Janine’s life was blessed with activities that she cherished, including camping, listening to music, travelling, baking and spending time with her family and friends. She had just recognized her 30th wedding anniversary and took great pride in that milestone. Plans to travel Canada with an interest in exploring Newfoundland were dreamed of, but sadly cut short.

Her memory will live on in so many of our hearts as she is remembered as a loving wife and mother, a loyal friend, and the "kewl" Aunt. We will remember her for her warm hugs, wonderful laugh and her smile that made her beautiful blue eyes sparkle.
Many will remember her incredible cakes that no occasion was complete without. Even in her final days, Janine brought laughter and comfort to her family.

The years were not enough, but a life with love is a life that has been lived, and she gave and received so much love. Our hearts are broken to say goodbye too soon, but Janine’s legacy will remain in each of the lives she touched and shaped with her kindness. A mother's love lasts a lifetime, not only their own, but their family’s, as it stays with them long after they are gone. Janine will be forever cherished by her children.

A Visitation will be held at Turner & Porter Peel Chapel on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 from 12-1pm. A Funeral Funeral Service will follow in the Chapel at 1pm, followed by a reception held off-site.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to CAMH in Janine's name.

And finally, we would like to recognize the outstanding compassion and care from so many of the staff at the Trillium and Northumberland Hills Hospitals. The nurses, doctors, care staff, and so many more who worked so tirelessly to support our family as passionately and professionally as they did for Janine. And a special thank you to Dr Wong and his team for the respect and compassion that they showed.
