In Celebration of

Janina Gacionis

August 28, 1929 -  August 28, 2025

Janina passed away on August 28, 2025 at St. Joseph’s Health Centre.

She was the cherished wife of the late Albinas, and will be dearly missed by daughters Vilija and Egle as well as granddaughter Nerija. Janina will also forever be remembered by her beloved family in Lithuania.

Born in Ažuolynas, Lithuania in 1929 on the Šešupė river to parents Jonas Aglinskas and Veronika Čereškaitė as one of seven children. She moved to Kaunas to attend high school and resided with Dr. Mikužis and family at the Mažylių Birthing Hospital. With the Soviet army advancing into Lithuania she fled to Germany with her adoptive parents with no possibility of returning to her occupied homeland.

As a displaced person in Uchte, Germany, she chose to immigrate to Canada in 1949. After arriving in Toronto, she briefly worked as a nanny and at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. She went on to work at Canada Life and retired from there.

Visitation will be held at the Church of the Resurrection (1 Resurrection Rd, Etobicoke) on Friday, September 5th, 2025 at 10am followed by a Funeral Mass at 11am. Private family interment.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Janina’s memory can be made to Romuva Scout Camp via Parama Credit Union, or to the Alzheimer’s Society of Toronto.
