Jane W. H. Hay (nee Young)

April 21, 1930 -  April 7, 2017

Peacefully, at The Dorothy Ley Hospice, Toronto, on Friday, April 7, 2017, just shy of her 87th birthday. Beloved wife and best friend of Peter. Loving sister of Robert and his wife Susan, George and his wife Wendy (and the late Margaret), Maisie and her husband George. Jane will also be missed by her sisters in law: Margaret and Isobell; predeceased by Elizabeth. Jane also leaves her dearly beloved nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews in Scotland, Australia, Canada and the USA. She will be fondly remembered by her many dear friends in The Barbershop, Kiwanis Music Festival, Red Cross Meals-on- Wheels, members of the Royal York Road United Church, and colleagues and friends at the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto. Jane was born in Scotland and came to Canada in 1954 after graduating from the Glasgow Royal Infirmary as a Midwife and a Nurse. She met the love of her life, Peter, in London, Ontario, when working at the Westminister Hospital. They married in 1959, and had recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. In 1961 they moved to Toronto, where Jane worked as a Nurse at the Hospital for Sick Children, and later moving onto work at the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto as a Nurse Practitioner, until an early retirement. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W. (between Kipling and Islington Aves.) on Tuesday from 7-9 pm and on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at Royal York Road United Church, 851 Royal York Rd. (South of Bloor St. W.) on Thursday April 13, 2017, at 11am. Cremation. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Dorothy Ley Hospice or the Kiwanas Music Festival. Online condolences may be made using this website.

No words, adjectives or superlatives can express how we feel about you and your unstinting and generous love and kindness you shared with us for all the years we have known you. You will always be in our hearts and minds for ever and a day. We are so proud of you and how you shared your final days with us by your side. You have been a wonderful sister, sister-in-law, aunt and great (and I mean great!) aunt to us and the whole family. Thank you for being you.
