In Celebration of

James Rowntree

June 6, 1942 -  April 1, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of an exceptional father and husband, James McLaren Rowntree, at Centenary Hospital in Scarborough on Monday April 1st, 2024, at the age of 81, with family by his side.

Born to Clarence and Doris Rowntree, Jim spent his childhood exploring Toronto with his older sister, Susan and his twin brother, John.

After thriving on the football field in his high school years, Jim attended Ryerson University and applied his degree to a successful career as a Director at Bell Canada Yellow Pages. Upon retirement, Jim began a second career as an Occasional Teacher with the Durham District School Board.

Jim enjoyed summers at the cottage and winters skiing. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Lisa, his four children, Matthew (Tanya), Erin Nella (Ralph), John and Daniel (Jillian), his seven grandchildren, Jackson, Thomas, Francesca, Ruby, Henrietta, Penelope and Faith, his siblings, John (Susan) and Susan (Manfred), niece Lisa (Derek), nephew, Peter (Emma) and extended family out west and in Ontario. Predeceased by his niece, Michelle. Survived by his former wife, Judy Lucas, mother to Matthew and Erin.

A special thank you to the medical staff at Centenary Hospital for their compassionate care and support. Visitation will take place at Turner & Porter Funeral Home, Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West, Toronto, on Monday April 8th from 5:00-8:00 pm. Funeral service on Tuesday, April 9th at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Scarborough Health Network Foundation, shnfoundation.ca, would be greatly appreciated.

I was greatly saddened to hear of the passing of Jim and my thoughts are with his family during this trying time. At Yellow Pages, Jim was a leader, a mentor, a great colleague, one of a kind, and a force to be reckoned with. He will be greatly missed.
