In Celebration of

James "Jim" William Hamilton Maguire

September 28, 1939 -  November 19, 2023

Passed away peacefully on November 19, 2023, at the age of 84, in Toronto, Ontario. Jim was born on September 28, 1939, in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. Though he lived most of his life in Etobicoke, he was extremely proud of his northern Ontario heritage.

The son of William Sanford "Sandy" Maguire and Elizabeth Hamilton, Jim graduated from KLCVI in 1957. He furthered his academic pursuits at the University of Toronto, where he studied Engineering Physics, graduating with his Masters degree in 1963. Jim dedicated the majority of his working years to IBM in Toronto and Markham, where he was employed for 38 years until his retirement in 2002.

Jim's athletic pursuits were primarily in basketball, golf, curling and recreational skiing. Jim played varsity basketball for U of T, represented Canada in men's basketball at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, and was a member of the 1981 Canada Life champion men's curling team, representing the Weston Golf and Country Club. Jim was a golf and curling member at Weston for over 45 years.

Jim was generous, modest and had a wry sense of humour. His selflessness, integrity and honesty were truly admirable traits that endeared him to those who knew him best.

In his personal life, Jim cherished his family and leaves behind a legacy of love. He is survived by his son, Greg Maguire; beloved grandson, Matthew Maguire; and daughter, Sue Maguire. Jim is also survived by his dear sister, Anne (Michael) Delaney; and his nephews, Tom (Brenda), Jim and Michael (Michelle).

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of the Revera Retirement Home at Forest Hill Place and Circle of Care who assisted him in his later years.

A private family memorial will be held to honour Jim's memory.

Jim's presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
