In Celebration of

James Albert (Bert) Mumby

December 8, 1933 -  March 16, 2020

On March 16, 2020 at the age of 86, Bert passed peacefully at Joseph Brant Hospital. After a long, productive and well-travelled life, Bert now goes on to join his late and cherished wife, Doreen. Bert’s life without her was never really the same. Father and Father-in-law of Deborah (Joseph Oliva), Karen (Steven Rusk), and son James (Irene). Loving Poppa of Philip (Courtney), Candice (Ali), Christopher, Michael (Maddie), James, Jillian and Joseph. Beloved Super-Poppa of Ava, Brayden, Arda, Ella and Hunter. Bert is survived by his sister, Doreen Boswell, and his dear partner, Betty Burton. Bert’s family wishes to thank their Aunt Betty for the love, companionship and patience given to him over the past 12 years. Bert will also be sorely missed by the Barnstaple and Burton families. A celebration of life will take place at a later date at Turner & Porter - Peel Chapel. Private family interment to take place on April 7, 2020. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to Bert’s favourite charities - Doctors Without Borders and Save the Children.

We were not related by blood, but definitely bound in our lives by love. Uncle Bert has been in Nancy’s life since before she was born. A driven, successful man who was stubborn for all the right reasons ... Uncle Bert always cared endlessly for his family and was proud of every one of them. He loved a good debate and, though he may not have agreed with his opponent, he always respected a sound argument.
As John noted on March 17th when he learned of Uncle Bert’s passing ... “He’ll be dancing with Doreen tonight”.
Our love and condolences to all.

I have over 50 years of memories of Bert Mumby. I think that other than family, I may have been Mumby & Associates first paid employee back in the 60’s. I remember Bert paying me (and Karen) to lick the stamps & envelopes for the first flyers Bert sent out for his new company after leaving Sheffield. From Bert patiently trying to teach me how to water ski at the cottage on Healy lake to the beautiful toast he made for Karen on her 60th birthday, there was only one Bert. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. Love Judith xoxo
