In Celebration of

JEAN “Genowefa” BIEGA

September 7, 1928 -  August 30, 2025

With sadness, we share that Jean passed away after a brief illness, eight days before her 97th birthday.

Jean was predeceased by her beloved husband of 48 years, Stanley (1995) and her son Gary (2022) as well as her parents Antoni and Karolina Kostuch and her brothers Mitchell, Raymond and Ted and is survived by her sister Helen Martinovic (Stanley).

Jean was dearly loved and will be missed by her children Carol Tylak (the late Wally), Christine Moran, Ron (Cheryl) and Stephen (Marj) as well as her grandchildren Michael (Victoria), Stefan (Priscilla), Jennifer (Joe), Jan (Krysta), Sebastian (Rose), Alannah (Brian) and Oshin; her great-grandchildren Emma, Shawn, Julia, Laura and C.J. and many cousins, nephews and nieces both in Canada and Poland. Special mention to her late husband’s cousin Ryscia Wysotski of Oshawa and her children Linda and Andrew with whom many good times were shared.

Jean, known as “Jenny” to her siblings and long-time friends, was born in Gdow, a village 28 km. south of Krakow, Poland, and arrived in Canada in 1938. As a young woman, she worked on Spadina Ave. as a seamstress and formed life-long friendships with Julie Karpiel, Jeanette Madracki and Eileen Phillips, all of whom have predeceased her.

In 1948, Mom met the love of her life and future husband Stanley at a dance hall at St. Stanislaus Church on Denison Ave, Toronto. Not long after, she dedicated her life to being a devoted wife, mother and home maker. She took particular pride in keeping a spotless home and delighted family and friends with her Polish cooking talents and superior baking skills. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening and euchre, a card game she played regularly at community centres well into her late 80’s. Mom also volunteered for many years at Sheridan Villa.

After Dad’s untimely passing, Mom took a greater interest in travelling and enjoyed several trips within Canada and Europe with her sister Helen. As well, Mom visited Poland and stayed with her cousin Ola Kmiec in Krakow.
We say farewell with happy memories and are comforted knowing that she passed peacefully and with love in her heart.

A special thank you to Dr. Stefano Lopiccolo and the palliative care team at Credit Valley Hospital for their compassion and care and to the staff and volunteers at Ian Anderson House for their incredible and unwavering support in Mom/Babcia’s final days.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter ‘Neweduk-Erin Mills’ Chapel, 1981 Dundas St. W., Mississauga (east of Erin Mills Pkwy), on Monday September 8, 2025 from 2-4pm, and 6-8pm. A Chapel service will be held, on Tuesday September 9, 2025 at 11am.
Interment at Springcreek Cemtery.

In lieu of flowers, family would appreciate donations to Ian Anderson House through their website https://www.ianandersonhouse.com.
