In Celebration of

Ivka Ursa

September 15, 1939 -  September 11, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Ivka Ursa. She was a devoted daughter, caring sister, loving wife and nurturing mother. She was caring, compassionate and always supportive. A person of deep faith who had a passion for life, she always had a positive and kind word to share. Her gentle spirit and warm heart touched the lives of all who knew her. Her memory will forever be a source of strength and inspiration.

She was cherished and will be dearly missed by her children John and Mary (Mike). Predeceased by her late husband Tadija (Ted). Survived by brother Božo (Kata) and sister Anica (predeceased Vlado) and sisters and brothers in law, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends in Canada, USA, Croatia and Bosna Hercegovina.

Family was at the center of Ivka’s world. Though we grieve her loss, we are grateful for the precious moments we shared with her and the lasting impact she had. Ivka possessed a zest for life, she adored music and singing (member of CCCS choir), walking, gardening and golfing with the Youthful Seniors, travelling and socialising with family and friends. She may no longer be with us in person, however, her spirit lives on in the love and cherished memories we hold dear. May her soul find enteral peace, and may her legacy continue to touch the lives of many.

Family and friends may call at the Turner & Porter “Butler Chapel”, 4933 Dundas Street West, Etobicoke, on Sunday September 17, 2023, from 5-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at the Our Lady Queen of Croatian, 7 Croatia Street, Monday September18, 2023 at 10 a.m.

While I never met Ivka Ursa, I know her legacy in her son John. I know John to be dedicated, diligent, caring and trustworthy. Recognizing that "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree", I assume that Ivka embodied those same traits. You are already missed Ivka!

I know these days are hard and my heart hurts with you. My prayer for the family is that in the coming days your current pain will be replaced by warm memories of a happier time spent together as a loving and close family.

My father died about 15 years ago. I only share this story with my closest friends... John, this is for you.

My father was very sick for 7 years. At one point, only about a year into his illness, he "died" while in the hospital. He obviously lived through that experience, and he later told me that when he died he saw "the light." He explained it was more like a doorway than a light. He said he knew that if he went into the light he would never come back. He told me that he could feel "peace, comfort and love" from the light. He said he knew he had a choice, and he elected not to enter at the time. He had young grandchildren he had never met, and elected to live so he could meet them (he did).

In his last days he recounted this story. With some of his last words he told me and my family something I'll never forget. "I have died once before, and I know what is on the other side. I know there is peace, and rest and love. I am tired, and I'm ready to go. I am not afraid to die because I know where I am going. I will miss seeing you guys in the short term, but I know that I'll see you in the future. I look forward to that sweet reunion but don't rush to see me."

John.... and anyone else who may have had the stamina to read this note... I hope that you look forward to a sweet reunion with your mother, but don't be in a rush!

With love and great friendship,
Matt

I am so sorry for this loss to Ivka’s family and her many golf friends. I so enjoyed when I was in a foursome with this fun and lovely lady. She will be sorely missed at Scarlett Woods.
