In Celebration of

Irene Waskiewicz

March 16, 1929 -  December 28, 2022

Peacefully passed away in her 94th year at home on December 28, 2022. She was with her devoted caregiver’s Magda Lorek and Dominika Klusek. Irene’s family extends sincere thanks to Magda and Dominka for the wonderful care to allow Irene to pass at home as she wished.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Walter (Waclaw) and her siblings Janina Krechowicz, Helen Misztal and Roman Przysiezniak. Fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews and extended relatives in Canada and Europe.

Irene was born in Planta, Poland and along with her family suffered through Russian invasion and refuge status during WWII. She and her siblings were orphaned during the war and endured a long and difficult journey through many countries before uniting with relatives in Toronto, Canada.

In Toronto, Irene enjoyed a long and fulfilling career with Toronto Dominion Bank. She enjoyed family, friends and travel. Amongst family, friends and colleagues, Irene was famously known for her sweet raisin bread (Babka) that she lovingly shared with us.

May she rest in peace.

TO THÉ WHOLE FAMIILY AND LOVED ONES

Roman, my brother in law, often spoke about his sisters whom he loved very much.
Once I had the opportunity to meet Irka. She was a very playful person.

This death is really sad, especially since a page of history is ereased. However, thanks to Roman Przysiezniak’ s book, Freedom Lost and Found, certain facts will remain. Irka contributed in some way to helping Roman remember certain events.

That being said, my most sincere sympathy.

I am sad that Irene left us, but relieved that she is in a better place. God has her in his keeping and I have her in my heart. Rest in Peace Irene.

Condolences to all family and friends that share in her passing.

Que ton dernier voyage soit le plus beau et plus coloré encore que Hawaï.
J'ai souvent pensé à toi bien que nous ne nous sommes plus vues.
Mes souvenirs d'enfance restent bien ancrés,
dans ta belle maison aux vitraux,
les odeurs de kielbasa et de babka fraîchement cuite.
Tu seras dans mes pensées pour toujours.
Helenka
