In Celebration of

Irena Lesniak

April 6, 1934 -  May 17, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Irena Teodozja Lesniak (nee Bednarski). Beloved wife of Jerzy and loving mother of Alicia and Agata (Aggie) and son-in-law Jay. Dear sister of John and Alexander Bednarski and Alexandra Kwaczek.

The viewing will take place on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Turner & Porter (2357 Bloor St. W. - east of Jane St.). The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 10:15 a.m. at St. Casimir's Church (156 Roncesvalles Ave.).

In lieu of flowers, donations to Pulmonary Fibrosis Research at the Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Please visit Irena Lesniak's personal donation page at: https://www.tgwhf.ca/personal-pages/irenalesniak/ or call 416-340-4430. We will allocate gifts in memory of our mother to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Research Fund under Dr. Charles K. Chan’s leadership. Hopefully, we can help slow the progression of pulmonary fibrosis in those suffering from this devastating disease. Thank you.

If you could say one thing about our mom, it's that she had a zest for life. She was passionate about travel and often visited exotic locations that most only dream of seeing. As much as she loved to travel, there was no place that our mom would rather be than on the dance floor. And anyone within a 10-metre radius was a possible tango partner. our mom was the centre of our extended family as a respected confidante, master diplomat and trusted advisor to her siblings, nieces and nephews. She was also very generous to everyone. A master gardener, our mom's gardens are legendary. Many of us are lucky recipients of her cuttings. Our mom would also take our withered plants home and bring them back to us in full bloom. My sister, Jay and I could easily fill up pages and pages of this site with all of the wonderful memories of our mom but suffice it to say that we couldn't have asked for a better mom. We love you, Mama.

Aunt Irene was the one I looked up to growing up. She was a great cook and entertainer. Always cheerful and happy when she had visitors, whether it was a special occasion or unannounced visit, she made us feel welcomed. I was looking forward to spending more time with Aunt Irene and uncle Jerzy as I planned my retirement.
