In Celebration of

Helen Kornelia Hristienko

September 4, 1921 -  October 31, 2020

Helen passed away peacefully at Amica Bayview Gardens retirement village at the age of 99.

Helen was predeceased by her husband Peter (2008), parents Frank and Marta Brzeski, brother Roman and sister Kazia. Helen will be sorely missed by her son Henry, grandson Lee, sister Renata, relatives and friends.

Helen enjoyed her life as a mother, grandmother, and friend and as an employee of Richardson Greenshields. She loved classical music, opera, the performing arts, Olympic events and vacationing in Hawaii and the Caribbean; she even took dance, yoga and language lessons in her 90s and made her last unaccompanied trip at 93.

Helen came from privileged beginnings in Poland. In 1947, with a $5.00 coin to her name, she pioneered her way to Canada, first setting roots in Chatham. Before setting permanent roots in Toronto, she laid the groundwork for her parents and brother to join her in 1950.

Although Helen was a vivacious and fiercely independent pillar of strength, she was also the most kindhearted person of service who would gladly lend an ear, a shoulder, a hand to one and all. She’ll be remembered and revered for her fortitude despite the obstacle, and for seeing the positive in any situation. Her story of courage, hard work, perseverance while “living life to the fullest” is one she can be proud of.

Many heartfelt thanks are extended to the staff at Amica for making her stay as comfortable and enjoyable as it had been the past 10 years.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Toronto North York Foundation would be appreciated.
