Loving grandmother and Babi to Barbara (Jose), Ryan (Claudia), Janet, Daniel (Veronica), Peter (Emilie), Jaclyn (Alec), Scott (Samantha), Ali (Nathan), Zachary, and Kathryn. Loving great-grandmother to Julian, Kaiah, Matias, Mila, Jonah, Logan, Greyson, Parker, Mikayla, Colette, Nathan, Quentin, and Magda. She also leaves many beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, extended cousins, and friends.
Heidi was born in Šternberk, Czechoslovakia, on November 12th, 1927, to Hans and Marianne Klimesch (nee Friedmann). In 1969, Heidi and her husband, Miroslav, and seven of their children escaped communist Czechoslovakia, leaving everything behind. While awaiting sponsorship by family to live in Canada, they lived with friends in Vienna, Austria, for six months, arriving in Canada in January of 1970. Heidi worked at Canadian General Electric in the payroll department for many years. Upon retirement, she was very active with adult learning, yoga, and the church community. She was an avid reader, and a world traveller, while always making time for her family and friends.
Heidi was the matriarch of our family, our family’s heart and soul. She modelled kindness, grace, dedication, strength, fearlessness, and faithfulness. She showed us all how to care for others in the way she cared for all of us, and for her husband, when he was ill. Heidi never let life’s challenges stop her. She never had an unkind word, and she lived her life with joy. She had an unrelenting spirit of positivity that continuously drove her forward.
Heidi’s calm demeanor, welcoming smile, sparkling eyes, and strong spirit will be sorely missed by all who had the honour of knowing and loving her.
As a family, we would like to thank the numerous care providers who helped us to look after our Mom/Babi during the last few years, and enabled her to stay at home, where she was most happy and comfortable.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel (2357 Bloor St. W., Toronto, ON, M6S 1P4).
