In Celebration of

Hartmut Schwerdt

November 24, 1940 -  June 22, 2017

Hartmut Schwerdt, born November 24, 1940 in Berlin Germany has passed away the morning of June 22, 2017 after a courageous battle with leukemia.

After graduating in Berlin as the youngest cartographer ever in his school, he emigrated to Canada in 1961.

In 1977 Hartmut, along with his first wife Rita founded MapArt in their basement to offer Canadians high quality maps. The company was known for designing attractive and user-friendly maps and went on to be the largest map company in Canada.

Hartmut will be remembered as a loving and caring family man with a wonderful sense of humour, a passion for soccer and life adventures. He leaves behind his wife Gina, children (Gordon, Sabine and Sue), and grandchildren (Natasha, Tanya, Lukas, Kian and Grant).

He will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be held at the Turner & Porter 'Butler' Chapel, 4933 Dundas Street West (between Kipling & Islington Aves.), on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Service of Remembrance will be held in the Chapel on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 11 a.m. For those who wish donations may be made to West Park Rehabilitation.

I am so sad and can only guess how his family must feel. I send you all my deepest sympathy. I mourn with you.
I always enjoyed his (often sarcastic) humor and the occasional glass of red wine with him. Not to forget his legendary New Year Eve's Parties. Hartmut, you will be missed. Rest in peace my friend.

be not afraid.
We are so lightly here.
It is in love that we are made,
in love we disappear."
