In Celebration of

Halina Szkolka

April 4, 1934 -  September 30, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Halina on September 30, 2021 at the blessed age of 87. Beloved wife of the late Peter; loving mother to Judy Madden (late Dennis), Lola Mikisz (late Doug) and Sandra West (Phil); doting grandmother to Tamara Madden and Michael Madden (Katie); adoring great-grandmother to Gabriel, Noah, Kailar and Bradley; predeceased by brother Alexander; dear aunt, great-aunt and great-great aunt to many in Canada and Poland. She was the Canadian mother to 110+ international students who all loved her and especially loved her borscht! Halina was born in Poland and relocated to Germany during WW11. Following that, she went to Belgium and then to Canada. Proudly retired from General Electric and always active with the church and community. Anything Halina touched, simply flourished including her garden, her home, her cooking and the love of her family & close friends. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Copernicus Lodge Foundation, the Heart & Stroke Foundation or St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.

Due to Covid restrictions and limitations, we respectfully request that no more than 2 people from each family be represented at the visitation.

We know that words are inadequate at a time like this, but we wanted you to know that we are very sorry for your loss of your mother and our dear friend Halina.

We feel blessed to have known her. She was such a remarkable person and had such an amazing life.

We were fortunate to have spent so many great moments with her over the many years that our family had known her, including some very special milestones. Her personality, warmth and sense of humor always made the occasion so much more enjoyable. It’s her ‘laughing’ eyes that we will remember most.

She will forever be in our hearts and we will look back on the moments we spent with her, missing her not with tears in our eyes, but a Duchenne smile.

We share in your grief and send all of you our love.

She had something special. Stood out in a crowd. So sorry for your loss. Let the good memories help the sorrow.

Our deepest condolences at this difficult time. Your mom was a lovely woman who cared a great deal about the people in her life. She will be greatly missed by many. She was so kind to me and my family years ago and we will remember her fondly.

May you all have strength to get you through the days ahead
