In Celebration of

Gunther Gazdag

November 25, 1944 -  December 12, 2019

Passed away at home on December 12, surrounded by his family and overlooking his dear Bay of Quinte. Son of Steve and Eva Gazdag (deceased). Brother of Steve Gazdag (Madeleine) and Monika Frost (deceased). Beloved husband of Dr. Mary Kudrac. Gunther adored his son, Darren Gazdag (Heather) and treasured his stepchildren, Mike Kudrac (Darci) and Stef Mauler (Mike). He was Opa to his grandchildren, Eric Mauler, Scott Mauler and Ava Kudrac, all of whom he idolized. Born in Vienna, Gunther and his family immigrated to Canada when he was 9 years old. Gunther earned two Master degrees from UofT, an MA and a MEd, and became a highly respected and loved principal with the Toronto Separate School Board. Gunther’s warm, witty and caring personality earned him a wide circle of friends, all of whom he cherished. Even when he was facing a devastating battle with cancer, he remained gracious to all around him, grateful for their care and never lost his wonderful sense of humour. Visitation will be at Turner and Porter Funeral Home, Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. West, on Tuesday, December 17th from 7pm to 9pm. A Funeral Rite will be held at St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church, 135 La Rose Ave. (off Royal York Road), Etobicoke on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends make a donation to their charity of choice.

A beautiful soul whose life touched so many. A soulmate to Mary. So much love and respect between them. He always said he won the lottery when he met Mary. No words to express our sadness at your loss. Love to you and Stef and Mike and Darren and families. G-d Bless .

We went to the same elementary school and graduated from the old St.Patrick'sSchool and then found ourselves in the same career. Gunther was larger than life, charming, witty and with a great sense of humor. He fits the description of the man that did not follow the well worn path, but that he created his own.
My condolences to Mary and the family.....wishing you strength and courage.

Mr. Gazdag was the Principle at Blessed Sacrament School, and I have fond memories of him. He was always kind and supportive and he loved to tease me. one example, I had a navy dress with white poke-a-dots on it, every time he saw me in it, he always said you dropped a poke-a-dot, and I always looked. lol. Or he would sing Michelle my bell when he saw me. Years later when in high school, visiting another school for a sports event, he recognized me and came over to say hi. He was a very dear man, and it is my deepest condolences to his family at this time. You will all be in my prayers. Mr. Gazdag, made a lasting positive impression with so many people.
