In Celebration of

Guido Marini

August 30, 1929 -  May 10, 2021

Guido Anthony Marini passed away suddenly but peacefully at Trillium Health Partners Mississauga on May 10, 2021 in his 92nd year. Born August 30, 1929 in Wallaceburg, Ont., Guido was the youngest of Pia and Antonio Marini’s three children, and was predeceased by his parents and sisters, Dina Fournelle and Siria Jacisin. Guido was the beloved husband of 60 years to Kathryn (Kay, née Birtles), who predeceased him in June 2016, and is survived by their four children, Joe (Anita), Dick (Maria), Nancy, and Virginia. He was the proud grandfather of Michael (Jan), Sara (Adrian), Elizabeth (Adam), Charles (Lauren), Erin (Warren), Christopher (Emily), Kate, Diane, and Lydia, and delighted in their adventures and successes. Guido retired from TD Bank as Senior Vice President in 1992 after spending the entirety of his 40+ year career there, beginning at the Bank of Toronto in Wallaceburg. His career took him to Toronto, where he met Kay, and on to memorable stops in Hamilton, Calgary, and Edmonton before concluding back in Toronto. Guido enjoyed a long and healthy retirement, travelling internationally, spending winters in Siesta Key, FL and remaining an active member of the St. George’s Club, where he was an avid golf and bridge player. He was an exceptional card player and a lover of all sports, especially baseball, football, and golf. After Kay's death, he moved to an active lifestyle seniors’ residence (Tapestry at Village Gate), where he made many new friends, as he did everywhere he went. Blessed with considerable common sense, energy, and an outgoing personality, he was a tough yet fair business person and parent, and a friend and mentor to countless. He is fondly remembered by innumerable colleagues and friends, and a host of relatives in both the Marini and Birtles families. A private family funeral will be held at St. Gregory’s Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Crohn's and Colitis Canada www.crohnsandcolitis.ca.

For those who wish to participate via livestream it will begin on Saturday May 15, 2021 at 10am.

So very sad to hear this news. Quito was a wonderful human being, and I know he missed Kay so much.
The world will not be the same.

Joe, Dick, Nancy and Virginia please accept my sympathy on your father's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the entire family. While times like this are difficult I am sure as time passes you will be able to look back on many fond memories. I have lost a good friend.

I was so sorry to hear of your father's death. He was a great friend. We played golf and bridge together many times at St.George's. It was always a joy to be together with him. He was kind, upbeat, and always ready to share a good laugh. His greatest quality was that he always reached out to people with care and concern. When my daughter died suddenly a few month ago Guido was among the first to call me and share my sorrow. He was just a wonderful person. May God grant to you all comfort and peace. Our prayer are with you.

Guido welcomed me into the TD Bank in 1967 and over the next 30 years became a roll model even though I never worked for him. Later we became collogues and neighbors but more importantly we became close friends. Guido and Kay were extremely proud of their 4 kids and their flock of grandkids and had a special appreciation for each one. Good by old Friend....you are sorely missed.

John Martinello was born in Wallaceburg and wrote this story in 2019. It is a great recap of Guido's life. His father, Dino was also born in Wallaceburg. He and Guido were sons of immigrant Italian parents and best of childhood friends. Enjoy, and thanks to John for sharing: www.wallaceburgcourierpress.com/news/local-news/the-lucky-kid-from-earl-street
