In Celebration of

Grace Lofters

October 1, 1935 -  May 19, 2019

On May 19, 2019, Grace Elizabeth Lofters (née McKay) passed away peacefully at home at the age of 83. Born in Kingston, Jamaica on October 1, 1935, Grace was the third of four children born to Iris Rosemund McKay (née Scott) and Rowland George McKay. She graduated from Happy Grove School in 1955 and emigrated to Etobicoke 8 years later. Prior to coming to Canada Grace worked at the University of the West Indies and after immigrating to Canada she worked for a short stint at Crown Life before beginning her career with the Toronto Public Library System for 28 years, mainly at the Eatonville branch. She was beloved by patrons and staff alike. Grace was an avid and award-winning gardener, voracious reader, passionate traveler, and devoted congregant and volunteer at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. She is survived and greatly missed by her children Philip Lofters and Sophia Lofters-McGuire; grandchildren Adrienne, Calvin, and Russell Lofters; son-in-law Glen McGuire; brother Hopeton (“Manny”) McKay; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Her family and friends are comforted knowing that she will be reunited with her parents and sisters Gloria and Joy (“Sissy”) in the next life.

Friends may call Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W. (between Kipling and Islington) on Sunday, May 26, 2019 5-8 p.m. with a service to follow on Monday, May 27, 2019 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 3819 Bloor St W, Etobicoke at 11:00 a.m. For those who wish, donations may be made to Dorothy Ley Hospice in Grace’s name.
