Peacefully at Trillium Mississauga Hospital in his 86th year, on Thursday, October 5, 2017. Dearly loved husband of Janet (née Dale) for 58 years. Much loved father of Susan (Jerry), Sheilagh (Mike), Doug (Cristine) and Mike (Shelley). Loving grandfather of Ryan, Alex, Andrew, Haley, Kyra, Nathan and Avery. Born in Dundee, Scotland to the late Alexander Morris and Margaret (MacIntyre) Findlay, he was the brother of the late Morris and David, brother-in-law of Glenn Richards and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Gordon came to Canada in 1955 and ultimately was a longtime Communications Director at Royal Insurance Canada. He was a member of the Toronto Scottish Rugby Club, an avid golfer and curler and a member of St. James United Church. He was an enthusiastic reader and story teller and a frequent contributor to the opinion page of The Globe and Mail as well as other publications both here and in the U.S.A. The family is very grateful for the outstanding care provided by the staff at The Queensway and Mississauga Trillium Oncology and Palliative Care Team. Cremation has taken place. Interment in Bowmanville Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at St. James United Church, 400 Burnhamthorpe Rd., Etobicoke on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
