In Celebration of

Gladys Douglas

January 19, 1924 -  June 2, 2019

Peacefully in her 96th year on Sunday, June 2, 2019. Cherished mother of Andrea, Colin (Nancy Bishop) and Paul (Tammy), and loving grandmother of Ethan and Aidan. Loving sister of Colin Blyth (Valerie), Don Blyth (Joyce) and Helen (the late John) Grimmett. Fondly remembered by David Roberts. Dearly loved aunt and cousin. Cherished friend of many. Predeceased by her beloved husband Andrew Douglas (1993), much loved son Martin (1980), and dear sisters Elspeth Blyth (2009) and Florence (the late Frank) Archibald (2002). Gladys, nee Blyth, was born in Guelph on Jan. 19, 1924, and grew up on the family farm. She was proud to be a nurse, graduating from Hamilton General Hospital School of Nursing in 1945, and earning her Bachelor of Nursing Science from Queen’s University in 1948. She had a great capacity for friendship with her warm and welcoming nature. She had a happy optimistic spirit, living vibrantly, defying the years and finding joy in each day. She was an inspirational role model and will be greatly missed. Visitation is at the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W., (west of Islington), Etobicoke, on Thursday, June 6, from 6-8 p.m. and Friday, June 7, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral at St. Giles Kingsway Presbyterian Church, 15 Lambeth Rd., Etobicoke, on Saturday, June 8, at 11 a.m. Interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Guelph, on Monday, June 10 at 1 p.m. In memory of Gladys, donations may be made to St. Giles Church or Dorothy Ley Hospice. My deepest sympathy to all of the family members of Gladys Douglas. Such a wonderful woman! I have such fond memories of her including allowing us to swim in her pool when we were younger. She made my wedding cake. She was a great friend to both of my parents Brian and Jacqueline Mudie. She was brilliant, kind, thoughtful a true testament of the human spirit and an inspiration of the potential we all could be.
I'm so glad that she was surrounded by her loved ones and in hospice care. I do hope the wonderful memories will bring you comfort at this time of such great loss.

Respectfully, Lisa Mudie

Dear Andrea,
We are recalling your mother and father’s ballroom dancing skills just like Ginger
Rogers and Fred Astaire ! Your mother was gracious and generous and lovely, just
like you. She enjoyed a long life, well-lived. Our sympathies and love, Tom & Carol
