September 20, 1929 -
September 23, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father on Saturday September 23 at the age of 94.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Christine, loving father to Elaine (Murray) and Anne (Sal). Grandfather to Mark (Kellie), Kristen (Bill), Trevor, Lauren (James), Michael (Jasmine), and Kyle. Great-grandfather to 15. Olivia, Antoinette, Bianca, Zoey, Chiara, Hazel, Demi (d. 2015) , Elle, Vincenzo, Giuliana, Luke, Francesca, Kallie (d. 2021), Santino, and Jack.
Predeceased by his sisters Doris (Bill) McIlroy and Joan (Barney) Pilon. Brother-in-law to Norma (Frank) Bukovac.
In dads early 20’s, he was a member of the Royal Guard HMCS York. He served on the HMCS Haida out of Halifax. He was also a member of the Navy band, having the honour to have played for a young Queen Elizabeth when she visited Toronto.
Dad started his long career as a sheet metal mechanic, like his father before him, at Semple Gooder, which subsequently led to his forming of Eady Brothers and Company along with his two Uncles, George & Gord Eady. In 1982 he closed Eady Bros and Company and went to work for E-D Roofing Limited with his son-in-law Murray. He retired from roofing in 1989 and pursued a career in consulting with IRC Group for several years.
He was one of the founding members of the OIRCA (Ontario Industrial Roofing Contractors Association) and was the president of the organization in 1984 and 1985. He chaired the membership committee and sat in on the communications committee. He was a passionate supporter of the OIRCA.
Dad was a man of many talents and interests. He enjoyed golf, sailing, curling and tennis. He always kept busy and was a member of the Canadian Legion, Probus , Rotary Mississauga and The International Yachting Fellowship of Rotarians. He was the honoured recipient of 2 Paul Harris Awards. He delighted in the days when the Rotary sponsored the Easter Seal children and their families for a day out in Lake Ontario sailing, and working diligently at the Lobsterfests and Ribfests at City Hall.
Apart from being a master shipbuilder, (okay, they were only canoes, kayak, and a sea fleet). He cherished the days sailing on his 37' and 41' Hunter sailboats. Respectfully Nauti-gal and Scherazade. He was very passionate about his ballroom dancing. He entered many competitions, winning several in the divisions he entered, all the while having the distinction of being the oldest competitor in the group.
He enjoyed his summer days up at his cottage on Kennisis Lake and his winters in Florida with Mom and his “winter” friends, happily golfing all year round. A favorite pastime of his, and moms, was attending a dinner club with many close friends, meeting once every month.
He supported all his grandchildren and often went to watch them in their various activities. His greatest pleasure was trying to steal their ice cream, rarely succeeding, when dessert came around. Even though success was fleeting, he never stopped trying.
Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 and Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from 4-8 p.m.
A Funeral mass to be held at St. Clement’s Parish, 409 Markland Drive at Bloor Street, Etobicoke on Thursday at 10:00 a.m.
A private burial will be at a later date.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations in Dads memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
