In Celebration of

George Trakas

November 23, 1930 -  June 4, 2021

Toronto - George Trakas, age 90, of Toronto passed away peacefully Friday June 4th, 2021 at Centenary Hospital. George was born of Konstantina and Kostantinos Trakas in the small Peloponnesian village of Papari, in Arkadia, Greece on November 23rd, 1930.

He attended grade school in Papari, and with his sister Katerina grazed sheep and helped work the small family farm. George joined the army for his two years of service required when he turned eighteen - learning to drive all manner of army vehicles. After his army service, he decided to immigrate to Perth, Australia in 1953, on the foreign worker program. Although his heart remained in Greece with his mother and sister, he was able to help make a better life for them by working in Australia. It was there that he learned the trade of welding, the trade that he would practice until his retirement. George lived in Australia for 16 years, eventually earning his citizenship. However, he decided to move to Canada in 1970 where he met his wife Anastasia Preketes (who passed in 2008). They were married on July 31st, 1971. George’s favourite pastime was puttering around in his prolific veggie garden.

George is survived by his children Kostas (Joanne) and Stavro (Nancy); and his four grandchildren, Pierce, Marcus, Thomas and Catherine.

Due to Covid regulations only a very small group of family members are able to attend the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Canadian Parkinson's Society https://www.parkinson.ca/
