ROUTLIFFE, George Thomas, passed peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at The Westbury Long Term Care Residence in Etobicoke, Ontario, at the age of 95. He is now reunited for eternity with his beloved wife of 61 years, Lyola.
Cherished father of Maureen (John), Teri, the late Chris (predeceased Dawn), Jim (Janet), and Eileen (Dave). Beloved Papa to Joe (Shannon), Meagan, Amy (Spencer), Matt (Brooke), Jeremy (Elissa), Alyssa (Ryan), Jeannine (Evan), Sevren, Riley, Jacob, and Noah, and proud great-grandfather to Adeline, Gabe, and Ava.
To his family, George was a quiet strength — fair, funny, known for his dry wit. His greatest joy was simply being surrounded by those he loved. With drink in hand, whether at the dinner table, watching a game, or sharing stories at his adored farm in Mulmur Township, he was happiest when his home, “the shack”, and his fridge were full. His familiar greeting, “Come on in and say hello,” welcomed generations of family and countless friends.
George spent 40 years trading stocks on the floor of the Toronto Stock Exchange, where his sharp mind and steady instincts earned deep respect. A skilled trader, he followed the markets well into his later years, never losing his passion for numbers. He took great pride in his work and in providing for his family.
He leaves a legacy of generosity, wisdom, and unwavering love — shared quietly and remembered always.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff and administration of AgeCare Westbury, especially for the caregivers on Dad's 5th floor, for their kindness, compassion, and devoted care during the six years he called it home.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30a.m., Thursday, March 26, at St. John of the Cross Parish, 6890 Glen Erin Drive, Mississauga. A Celebration of Life will follow from 1 – 3p.m. at Lionheart British Pub & Restaurant, 3221 Derry Rd. W. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul would be appreciated.
