In Celebration of

George Hanlon

March 30, 1931 -  November 5, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Hanlon on November 5, 2024, at the age of 93. He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. Preceded by his parents Sarah (nee Coll) and John Hanlon, as well as his sisters Elizabeth and Mary and brothers Michael, Daniel, John, Joseph and Martin.

George was born March 30, 1931, in Clackmannan, Scotland. He began working in a local textile mill as a teenager, and through hard work and commitment, he rose to become a sought-after general manager, leading teams and overseeing operations in numerous mills over his career. This career was a testament to his perseverance and determination, qualities that guided him through his life.

His life journey took him first to Ireland in 1968, where he met and married his beloved wife of 50 years, Ann. Together, they built a life full of love, and family, moving to Canada with their children in 1987.

George was a devoted father to his loving children, Sarah-Jane and John. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Serina and his cherished grandson, Marcus, who brought immense joy to George’s later years.

George will be remembered as a selfless, warm-hearted man who valued family and community. His love for gardening mirrored his approach to life—nurturing and tending to the people around him with patience and care. He had a unique ability to connect with others, always striking up a conversation and leaving a lasting impression with his kindness and positivity.

In accordance with his wishes, no funeral service will be held. Instead, a celebration of George’s life will take place at the Turner & Porter “Peel” Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga (HWY 10 N. of QEW), on Sunday November 17 from 2 - 5 p.m. Family and friends are invited to come together, share memories, and honour a life well-lived. Eulogy and sharing of stories to commence at 3 PM.

For those unable to attend in person a video link will be available to join the celebration of George’s life remotely starting at 3pm EST. Please click on the Livestream Button below.

Our heartfelt condolences to Ann, Sarah-Jane, John, Serena & Marcus. As neighbours for 30 years, we all admired dear George and his love for life and everyone around him. He had boundless energy and we would often see him tending not just to his garden, but also ours! Ever ready to lend a hand, help fix a problem or simply to chat about football, politics and life. His hearty laugh will not be forgotten. May he rest in peace.
