In Celebration of

George Erić

October 9, 1931 -  March 12, 2025

With great sadness, we announce the passing of George Erić, at age 93. Peacefully, after a lengthy and complex illness.

George (the second oldest of five children) was born in Bizovac, Slavonija to parents Stana and Ivan Erić. Blessed with ambition, resourcefulness, and a tremendous work ethic, George took pride in everything he accomplished.

He loved working with his hands and earned a diploma as a finishing carpenter and cabinetmaker. He dreamed of opening his own furniture shop in his hometown, but the hardships following the Second World War in a communist country made this impossible. George instead left his Croatian homeland in hope of a better future: in 1958 he arrived in Austria, and then eventually came to Toronto. On the ship he met his future wife, Janja, (formerly deceased) with whom he was married for 65 years.

George’s skills came to good use in the GTA. He eventually started a small business – M & E Carpenters - with his colleague, Mike, and did work for many builders who required his expertise in their factories being built in Mississauga and surrounding areas. He was appreciated for his integrity, for the quality of his work, and for always knowing right down to the penny how much a job would cost.

George has been a loving father to his children Amalia, Mary (Andrew), and John (Lora). He has also been a beloved deda (grandfather) to his grandchildren James, Peter, John, Charles, and Ava. George is survived by his sisters Anica and Ruža.

He is now reunited with his brothers Stevo and Jozo, his wife Janja, and many other dear relatives and friends in eternal peace.

We are so very grateful to the exceptional medical staff, personal support workers, and volunteers at Ian Anderson House Hospice, who worked miracles to make our dad’s final days as comfortable and peaceful as possible. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to Ian Anderson House hospice.

Milosrdni Isuse, molimo te da primiš našeg voljenog Georga u Tvoje Kraljevstvo. Počivao u miru Božjem!

Our sincerest condolences to the family and especially to our friend John. Your dad was a very nice man and the few times we'd met him he was the yin to his wife Janja's yang. May his soul rest in the peace of Christ.
