In Celebration of

Gary Traer

December 8, 1952 -  December 6, 2018

Died peacefully on December 6, 2018, two days before his 66th birthday. Beloved husband of Anna, adored father of Matthew (Casey Henderson), Stephanie (Ryan Amaral), Michael (Julia Kolesnik), cherished Grandpa of Aiden and Emma, devoted son of Lillian Kane and Vincent (predeceased), proud brother of Robert (predeceased), Richard (Francine Langteigne), Joy (Chris Dooley) and Janet (Dale Dickson) and special uncle of nephews and nieces. Gary will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Gary was born in Chatham (now Miramichi), New Brunswick on December 8, 1952. His family moved to Pembroke, Ontario when he was 6 years old where he formed lasting friendships. He obtained his Bachelor of Business Management and Certified Management Accountant designations in Toronto where he met his future wife Anna. Gary and Anna recently celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary. Together they enjoyed travelling, jogging, skiing, cottage living and golfing. Gary spent many summers at the Traer family cottage along the Miramichi River and at their log cottage at Round Lake. Gary was an avid curler and received Curling Canada’s 8 Ender Award. Gary loved spending time with his children and accompanied them to their various sports activities. Gary was enthusiastically involved as Manager for Matt’s various hockey teams travelling throughout Ontario for tournaments. Gary derived great joy from his grandson Aiden, especially picking him up from day care and being greeted with overly enthusiastic screams of joy. Gary spent countless hours visiting with his grandchildren and they will always have fond memories of their Grandpa reading to them, playing with them and entertaining them.
Gary will be remembered for his unique sense of humour, style and wit. His outstanding memory for detail was amazing and he spent countless hours recounting stories with family and friends. He loved the small things in life while sharing his zest for living.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

My deepest sympathy to all the Traer family. I will forever remember Gary as he was in this picture, and as the quintessential host at every Ptasznyk-Traer family event over the years. He was indeed a unique individual, and i am grateful to him for the role of uncle he continued to play for as long as he could. May you find comfort in knowing that his pain has ended and he is in the good company of others he missed and loved.

Gary, Bobby and Joy were neighbours for many years when we lived across the street from each other in Pembroke. (Morris Street) We, unfortunately lost contact but I will never forget the day we literally ran into each other at Pearson Airport in TO. It was instant recognition on both our parts. Gary had a larger than life personality and I am very saddened to hear about his passing. My condolences to his wife, children and grandchildren. Hold onto your wonderful memories....they will provide comfort in the days ahead.
