In Celebration of

G. Bruce (Suds) Sutherland

July 21, 1923 -  January 26, 2022

Suds truly enjoyed the journey. Struggled through trying childhood circumstances but grew into a determined, intelligent and big-hearted young man. Loved and excelled at rugby, football and especially hockey at Lawrence Park Collegiate and Varsity hockey at Victoria College,
U of T, with his many friends and schoolmates. Joined the RCAF for WWII at age 18 working radio communications in Northern England. Returned and earned his B. Comm at Vic. and soon married his joyful optimist Patricia (Pat).
Founding Sales and Marketing executive for fledgling mutual fund company AGF Management Ltd. The great success of AGF enabled an early retirement. In retirement Suds wrote and promoted a lovely children’s story about how money works entitled One Penny Two Penny.

Pat and Suds travelled the world and enjoyed 5 decades of idyllic summers in Muskoka golfing dining, dancing and laughing with many friends and family. The cottage remains a treasured family memory. Wintered in Florida with many Muskoka friends and others. For 66 years they remained deeply in love until Pat’s fatal fall in 2016.

Much loved and admired by Rob (Cheryl), Jamie (Brenda) and the twins Sheree (Heinz) and Marie (Kevin) and grandchildren Bridgette, Christopher, Ashley, Sarah, Carl, Ann and Joy, and great grand babies Heidi, and Gigi.

Dad taught us and demonstrated love and kindness, courage and determination, humour
and curious enthusiasm, and the power of positive thinking!

He also delighted in learning and playing old favourites on his fancy keyboard.

Even though dementia took its toll over the last few years he knew his family until the very end, and for his entire journey he simply never gave up. We will never forget.

Special thanks to the entire Delmanor team and loving personal caregivers Josephine, Leila, Rhea, and Maggie.

Per his wishes only a gathering of immediate family will be held.

Rob, Jamie, Marie, and Sheree:
I am so sorry for your loss. Your dad was an incredible man and I am happy to say I knew him. I have very vivid memories of him and his presence when we were teenagers growing up on Farmingham Crescent and at the cottage in Muskoka during the summers. May you find comfort in the special memories. I was so happy to read that your dad recognized all of you until the end, Don’t think of it as your dad leaving you, think of it as him going to your mom. God bless, Judy (Farrell) Danaher

Jamie and family. We’re so sad to hear of the passing of your great Dad (grand father, great grand father). I have fun memories of him from our days as teenagers, hanging out at your house or up at that magnificent cottage. I remember his voice really well even though it was 45 years ago or more! It sounds like he had a really full and rewarding life and I’m sure he knew he was loved right to the end. We will be thinking of you all and sending our best wishes.
