In Celebration of

Frederick "Fred" Ligorio D'Silva

June 30, 1932 -  September 27, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we would like to announce the passing of Frederick Ligorio D’Silva. He was born June 30th, 1932 in Karachi, Pakistan and died September 27th, 2023 peacefully at home. His battle with cancer over the last year showed his courage in facing life’s challenges with a smile. Despite everything, Fred came out a hero and stayed strong until the very end.

Fred is predeceased by his parents, Ligorio and Lily, and his siblings, Edith, Jerome, Phillip, Marjorie, Joan, and Maurice. He is survived by his beautiful and devoted wife Melba and his loving brother Ronnie. He was a proud father to his children, Oscar(Kari), Darryl(Stella) and Wendy(Burl). He was an even prouder grandfather, known as Pa, to Alexander, Madison, Aris, Kyla, Scarlett and Tristan.

He left an indelible mark on the landscape of Toronto but his legacy does not lie in bricks and mortar, but rather in how he impacted everyone he knew. He was always willing to offer help to anyone who asked.

His teasing and thought-provoking questions were always his staple but most of all his positive attitude and charisma will be forever imprinted in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Frederick's memory can be made to the Habitat For Humanity or the Down Syndrome Association of Toronto.

Fred was a remarkable man. The times we spent with him were an inspiration. He was warm and loved people. A brilliant individual who was well versed in World Affairs and also valued his family and friends.

He will be missed for his humour and generosity.
Rest in Peace Free. You lived a full life surrounded by loved ones

Dear Melba & family,
We wanted to share our heartfelt sympathy during your time of grief. Fred was a wonderful person; and the world and our community has experienced a great loss and is less bright without him. We don’t know the right words to say, and we know that no message can take away your pain, but we hope it brings you and the family some comfort during the darker days.
Unfortunately, we are unable to attend the funeral services since we are in the USA at present and will be returning to Canada in approximately one month.
May God bring all of you peace and comfort during this incredibly difficult time.
In sorrow, Tony & Cellie Gonsalves & family

It is with a heavy heart that I write this message, but I am so happy that I went to see both Fred (Pa) and Melba (Mum) just last week. As always, a philosophical and thought provoking conversation started between us! I am blessed to have known this kind human being since I was 6 years old. Rest in Peace and I hope you are continuing your philosophical debates with best of them on the other side! xoxo
