Born in Ljubljana, Slovenia on December 24, 1926, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 14, 2012. Frank is lovingly remembered by Marie, his wife of 61 years, and his children, Helen (Frank Hočevar), Tom and Andrew. Predeceased by his brother, Janez Kraljič, and his sister, Francka Peršin Petkovšek, he will be missed by his brothers, Jožef Kraljič and Anton Peršin of Slovenia, his aunts, Ana Zimmer and Marija Lavriša of Toronto and Marica Lavrisha of Cleveland, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews as well as a multitude of cousins in Canada, Slovenia and the United States of America, to whom he was Cousin #1. Throughout his life, he faced many challenges, the loss of his father at age 9, imprisonment a few years later in a concentration camp on the isle of Rab, Croatia, escape to Austria, leaving his mother, step-father and siblings for a new life in Canada. He worked on a farm in Milton for a year, then settled and married in Toronto where he found a job sewing leather purses. He soon found work in his trade as a tool and die maker at John Wood Company and was eventually appointed Superintendant. He recommended many from the community when they needed a job and especially students for summer work giving them an opportunity to earn their tuition and better themselves through education. He always supported and encouraged his children to study and was proud of their accomplishments. He was also involved in many Slovenian groups, volunteering often and was a wonderful role model teaching his children to give back to the community. He was a founding member of Holiday Gardens in Pickering and the Slovenian Linden Foundation – Dom Lipa Nursing and Retirement Home in Etobicoke, and faithfully campaigned to raise funds to start construction of the initial building. The family will receive friends at the Turner and Porter Funeral Home, Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W, Toronto at Windermere, east of the Jane subway from 6 – 9 on Sunday and 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 on Monday. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 611 Manning Avenue, Toronto at 10 o’clock. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yonge St. and Hwy. 7, Thornhill, Ontario. If desired and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memoriam to the Slovenian Linden Foundation (Dom Lipa).
