In Celebration of
Francesco Contarin
May 23, 1933 -
June 29, 2022
Peacefully, on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at the Trillium Hospital in Mississauga. Cherished husband of Giulia. Loving father of Angelo (Sandra) and Alfio (Domenica). Proud grandfather of Sebastian, Christian, and Angelica.
Francesco (“Cesco”) was born in Poggiana Italy to parents Pietro and Angela Contarin. He was the oldest of 8 – brother to Rosa, Lucia-Anna, Luigina, Agnese, Lorenzo, Innocente, and Luigi. He loved to sing and from a young age he was active in the parish choir. He spent three years working in Switzerland, and in 1957 he immigrated to Canada. He was the only member of his immediate family to come to Canada.
Francesco made new roots in Port Credit for several years, marrying his lifelong friend Giulia in 1959, and starting a family soon thereafter. In 1965 he made Clarkson his permanent home.
Francesco was a humble, hard-working man, doing all that he could to provide for his family. He devoted his life to his family – his wife, his two sons, their families, but most importantly to his grandkids. He had a passion for reading (he loved history, geography, and nature), for his garden, and for making wine and salami. When not tending to these, he followed sports - his beloved Soccer Team “Juventus”, his Formula 1 team “Ferrari”, cycling, and curling.
Francesco was also a faithful man. For over 50 years, he never missed Sunday mass at St. Christopher’s Parish. Most recently when he was no longer mobile, he would follow mass daily on TV.
He will be loved forever and never forgotten.
