In Celebration of

Finneas Daniel Haughian Forbes

October 14, 2004 -  October 3, 2022

A light that burns twice as bright burns half as long.
– Lao Tzu, Te Tao Ching

Finneas Forbes, a student at Western Technical and Commercial School in Toronto, passed away suddenly on October 3, 2022, because of complications from epilepsy.

Finn was an original. A smart, sensitive, funny, silly, sparkly, costume-wearing tornado who made an impression on whoever he met. Finn’s great passion in life was cooking, grilling, and curing meat. He loved nothing more than to cook for the people he loved, family, neighbours, teachers, anyone. He was looking forward to applying to Chef School next year. He would have made a brilliant chef, creative and fearless.

Finn’s positive outlook on life, despite his challenges, was inspiring. He simply explored every passion that occurred to him, finding a way.

Finn will be cherished forever by his mother, Laura Pratt, and sister Ainslie, as well as his father Daniel Forbes [Anne-Marie], and siblings Jack, Michael, and Penelope. Finn was a true citizen of his community. He loved his neighbours, friends, and teachers. He will be missed by everyone who knew him but will live in their hearts forever.

Visitation will be held at Turner & Porter "Yorke" Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West, Toronto on Friday, October 7, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, October 8, 2022 from 1 - 3 p.m. followed by a service at 3 p.m.

Donations are being requested in Finn's name, c/o Epilepsy Toronto: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/t/65782

I feel so lucky to have spent some time with Finn a few weeks ago in Sauble Beach. He made me laugh and smile and fed me his fabulous cured salmon. What a mark he made in his short life. My heart goes out to Laura, Ainslie, Vicky and Trace, Marg and Doug, Dan and his wife and kids. I’m so sorry for this incredible loss.

Chef Finn, is the image and visual that will carry on in my mind. There won't be a meal, farm to table or fine dining that I sit at with out him crossing my mind. I have never met Finn, but Laura's loving words and stories painted a vivid, loving and hysterical (the musical knife truck) picture. May your family weather this storm and see the blue skies again, and may Finn's personality forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.

I am so saddened to know the hardship your family is going through, and I want to offer my condolences and support. What a smart looking young man! While I didn’t know Finn, I can tell by his picture that he was an outstanding individual. I know he’ll be dearly missed.
