In Celebration of

Filomena Della Rocca

January 1, 1927 -  September 8, 2021

With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Filomena Della Rocca in her 94th year surrounded by family on September 8th, 2021.

Coincidentally, September 8th is also The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her nativity is a cause for great joy as it is considered the" dawn of our salvation" and represents that the world had been in the darkness of sin and, with the arrival of Mary, was enveloped by a glimmer of light. That light which appears at Mary's holy birth preannounces the arrival of Christ, the Light of the World. Her birth is the beginning of a better world: "Origo mundi melioris."

Filomena was very religious and taught religion to young children in her hometown of Montorio Nei Frentani in Italy. She brought light into the lives of her family and made their world a brighter and better place. She dedicated her love and provided tender care to her adored nephew Gennaro over numerous years.

Predeceased by her parents Elvira and Gennaro, her loving sister Maria, and dear brothers Paolo, Pasquale, Antonino, Giuseppe, Oreste, and Alfredo. Beloved aunt to Nick (Andrewene) Paulozza, Anna (George) Boyko, and adored Gennaro Paulozza. Cherished great aunt to Victoria, James, Madison, Zackary, Lara, and Mackenzie and great great aunt to Elaine. Fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends in Canada and Italy.

A private Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church on Friday, September 17, 2021. Entombment to follow at Westminster Mausoleum.

Sia che viviamo
Sia che moriamo
Siamo proprietà del Signore.
A Lui torniamo.

She would always say, “Non si muore finché si é dimenticata.” Zia we will never forget you and we will love you always! You will live forever in our hearts!

Donations in Filomena’s memory may be made to the Diabetes Association or to the Parkinson’s Society.

Dear Anna, Nick, Gennaro and family,
I only just learned of Filomena's passing and I am very sorry. We were friends on Morgan for many years and spent many afternoons, with your late mother Maria as well, knitting, crocheting and exchanging stories and recipes. They were very special ladies and they leave a legacy of love and devotion. I will carry them in my heart forever!
With deepest sympathy,
Gina Morrone and family

I will forever carry memories of Zia with me. I remember the early days of my childhood when Zia would return from her trips to Italy, with gifts for each of her great-nephews and -nieces. The Juventus player, Filippo Inzaghi's jersey still hangs in my childhood room and if it were a few sizes larger (or I was a few sizes smaller), I would wear it proudly today. But, the greatest gift Zia provided was not sports memorabilia or trinkets from the Mediterranean. It was the incredible blessing of finishing a day of school to come home to a freshly cooked Italian meal, surrounded by loving family members. After meals, Zia would often play Scopa with Lara and I. I still play regularly even today. And it brings me joy to know that as long as I play this game, I will never forget the light she brought into my life. Goodbye Zia, I'll miss you. Love always, James.
