In Celebration of

Eugenia Irene Fodchuk

March 13, 1925 -  September 7, 2025

Eugenia Fodchuk, predeceased by Stephan Fodchuk, (husband) passed away at the incredible age of 100. Known for her outgoing personality and generous heart, Eugenia brought joy to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her last days were at the Ukrainian Canadian Care Center cared for by dedicated, loving staff.

Born in Lviv, Ukraine, Eugenia’s life journey was one of resilience as WWII erupted. She left her family and beloved home to escape to Germany. Eventually she immigrated to Canada, built a life, had careers at Firchuk and then Metro Fabrics. She was known by many Ukrainian people in Toronto and area, who trusted her advice in sending parcels to Ukraine.

Eugenia was famous for her legendary "platsok", (a recipe everyone asked for), pineapple upside-down cake, and tomato rice soup which became a must for her to feed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Babcia was generous to a fault: If you ever mentioned something you liked, a food item, a piece of clothing, shoes, she would make sure you didn’t leave her home without it.

Her greatest pride was her family. She was adored by her daughter, Martha (Marty) and Slavko, (Jerry) as well as her grandchildren: Christine (Gilles), Mark (AnnaLisa), Zenon (Cindy), and great-grandchildren (Carter, Maya, Vasyl, Alexa, Keefer, Zachary, Taraas).

She lived a long and fulfilled life, but grew weary towards the end. She was ready for the next step in her journey and passed peacefully with a smile on her face surrounded by Family, knowing she was reuniting with her Mama and Tato.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Visitation will be held at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 from 1-3 p.m. Panachyda will begin at 3:00 p.m. followed by a reception.

In memory of Eugenia, please consider donations to www.helpsushelp.charity (children and veterans in Ukraine) or to a charity of your choice.

Dear Marty & Jerry & family,
We extend our deepest sympathy to you at the passing of your mother, mother-in-law and Baba, Eugenia Irene. She lived a long and beautiful life, giving of herself to so many. But even though she lived to be a hundred, no doubt you are still sad to let her go and will miss her very much. Know that she is happy in the Kingdom of God, free of pain and struggle and her love extends to you as always, even from her Heavenly place. Вічная пам'ять!

Our deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family as you struggle through
the grief and sadness that the loss of your Mama, Baba and Great Baba brings.
You are in our thoughts and prayers. Sending you a gentle hug to comfort you
and to let you know that you are on our mind and in our hearts.
The ones we love
do not vanish into silence—
they linger in the tender spaces,
in the soft hush of dawn,
in the golden trembling of light,
Most importantly they remain  in our hearts -
a treasured and precious memory.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.
May her soul rest in peace. Amen.
