In Celebration of

Ethel Yvonne Leslie-Samuels

January 31, 1926 -  February 6, 2017

Passed away peacefully on February 6, 2017 at Mountainview Residence in Georgetown, just days after celebrating her 91st birthday. Ethel was born in Chinguacousy Township on January 31, 1926, daughter of George and Mabel (nee Dolson) Leslie. Predeceased by brothers Eric, Hugh and Robert and sisters Margaret Chapman and Helen Daoust. Ethel was the beloved wife of Mervyn Samuels (predeceased in 1966). Ethel will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and her friends. Ethel worked in Toronto her entire life, retiring from Ronalds-Reynolds after many years of service. Ethel enjoyed travelling, attending Saturday matinees at The Royal Alex, doing crosswords and jigsaw puzzles and listening to classical music. Special thanks to Dr. Nadia Alam of Georgetown and trusted companion Jeannette Davies, and to the staff of Mountainview Residence, for their care and compassion in looking after Ethel over the last five years. Honoring Ethel’s wishes, a celebration of her life will be held by the family at a later date. If desired, donations may be made to your favorite charity.

I knew Ethel for a number of years and we shared many lunches and dinners (and white wine, of course). I missed her after she moved from the city but we did keep in touch. She was a great lady.

A fitting tribute for such a fabulous lady. I worked with Ethel and she was my mentor in the ad business. I left after a couple of year's to move into the film side of the business and we kept in touch throughout. I miss our conversations and especially regret not coming out to visit earlier. I shall raise a glass to the memorable Ethel. Godspeed.

Visiting Auntie Et as a youngster was so exciting, she lived in the big city! You got to ride an elevator, sometimes the subway, walk through the Eaton Centre, go to the CNE. It was Auntie Et who introduced me first to cheesecake, to crepes at The Magic Pan, then as I got older, to pizza with black olives and fine wine!

Her favorite saying "Who Gives a Rats Ass", summed Auntie Et up to a tee! She told you what she thought and what you should do, whether you asked her opinion or not. She was a businesswoman, she was independent, she was feisty and we both admired and feared her.

Auntie Et was the last in that generation in the Leslie family. God Bless!
