Ernie Nuqui quietly passed away during the early evening hours of March 22, 2026 at Credit Valley Hospital. Ernie was a beloved husband to Tita, and deeply loved father to Edberto (Regan), Ernesto (Lisa), and Elden (Jamie), and a proud Lolo to his grandchildren Kai and Liv. He will be missed also by his dear brother and friend Norberto (Bert) and all of Bert's family.
Ernie grew up in a large, poor family in the small town of Tinajero. Later, he met Tita. They married and started their family in the city of Manila. With 2 young boys and a third on the way, Ernie made the brave decision to move his family to Canada.
Ernie worked as a valued mechanic at Sherway Ford Trucks, earning extra bonuses for his skills, and eventually, he opened his own mechanic shop. By then, Ernie had helped his younger brother Bert and family to immigrate to Canada. The brothers remained close friends and worked together until they retired.
Along the way Ernie found his faith as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was happy when his sons chose to follow the same faith. Ernie switched his focus from building a successful business to helping others learn Bible truths he had come to love. He gained a reputation for fixing flat tires for strangers and giving his mechanic services to many based only on what they could afford. By the end of his 83 years, he had many relatives and friends from all over who continued checking in on him to his final days in hospital. He will be deeply missed until we see him again. - Psalm 37:29, Revelation 21:4
