Peacefully, at Trillium Hospital after a fall at his retirement residence, on Thursday May 6, 2021 in his 96th year. Emmerich was born on May 17, 1925 in Veliki Grdjevac, Croatia. He met the love of his life Anna in Austria, and they immigrated to Canada in 1961. Emmerich was a painter by trade, working in Germany and Austria before settling in Toronto and working at CityPark Apartments. An artist, he painted many folk art scenes, in his retirement. He was part of a large group of friends who made wine, and with Anna hosted many parties in their basement bar, and at their much loved cottage at Lake Simcoe.

Emmerich was, as were so many in those times, caught up in World War II, and has shrapnel in his arm to this day from a bomb blast.

He will be missed by friends and family in Canada, Croatia, Switzerland and Austria.

Heartfelt thanks to Constitution Place retirement residence and community for the compassionate care they provided Emmerich.

Due to covid19 a private ceremony will be held Tuesday May 11 at Turner and Porter Yorke Chapel. Internment to follow at Park Lawn Cemetery.
