It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Bokla on December 17, 2025.
Beloved wife of the late Steve Bokla, Elizabeth was a devoted mother to Lorraine Lesia (Bill) and James (Lori), a cherished grandmother to Alexandra, Mitchell, Lucas, Brianne, and a proud great-grandmother to Parker, Riley, and Sebastian.
Lovingly known to many as “Betty”, she was born on August 25, 1937, in Souris, Manitoba. The only child of Anastasia (Sokoluk) and Wasyl Belbas, Betty was raised in a life rich in Ukrainian culture, faith, and community. Her warmth, humour and curiosity left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Betty will be deeply missed by her family and the many friends she made throughout the chapters of her life. She had a remarkable gift for staying informed always up to date on pop culture, Hollywood, and the latest news and goings on. No one could outplay her at Scrabble, and no crossword puzzle ever stood a chance against her vast knowledge and vocabulary.
Her veranda was her happy place, a front-row seat to the life of her street. Neighbours would stop by whenever they saw her sitting outside and family always knew there would be a comfortable chair waiting, often paired with a popsicle or ice-cream cone and the latest neighbourhood “buzz”. Her door and her heart were always open.
Even as she transitioned into the wonderful care at Kipling Acres, Betty’s warmth and gratitude never wavered. She delighted in every visit, meeting each person with appreciation and grace. Until the very end, she made the most of every moment; dominating at bingo and trivia, then joyfully sharing her winnings with family.
Betty lived with an enduring love for people (and dogs!). Her presence brought comfort, laughter and a deep sense of belonging. She will be remembered for her youthful spirit, humour, generosity and the love she gave so freely.
She will be forever missed and always remembered.
We thank the staff at Kipling Acres and the team on Akrow for their care and compassion.
