In Celebration of

Elizabeth Istl

October 24, 1925 -  July 1, 2016

Elizabeth passed away peacefully on July 1st in her 90th year at Revera Kingsway in Toronto. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Frederick, with whom she travelled extensively around the world and to whom she was a vital support in his role as the Honorary Consul General of Austria in Toronto. She was the loving sister of Erika Winter-Dubiel (Keitum, Germany), devoted mother to her daughter, Yvonne Lenz (Frederick) of Baltimore, MD, and proud grandmother to Richard (New York City) and David (Washington, DC). A Celebration of her Life is being planned for September in Toronto. To honor Elizabeth’s memory, please perform an act of kindness.

I only lived next door to Elizabeth from when I was age 2 until age 9. But I have three very clear memories. First, that it was rather incredible that my parents' names were Fred and Elizabeth too! (they all found that pretty interesting when they moved in next to each other!). Second, back in those days, Mrs. Istl used to enjoy sitting in her backyard hammock (which gave me a life-long desire to own one like she had!). And third, that she used to have wonderful toenail polish -- making her seem very exotic! I believe that she also gave out pretty good Halloween treats! Thinking about you and remembering a very pretty woman.
