It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Davis-Vaccaro on January 7, 2026 at the age of 53, after courageously enduring a long illness. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend.
Elizabeth will be deeply missed by her beloved husband, Dan, her adored children, Gabriella and Sebastian, and her dear cats, Oscar and Wilson. She is also survived by her heartbroken parents, Dr. Clive and Sheryl Davis, brother, Edward, her parents-in-law and sisters-in-law, and her many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She was pre-deceased by her Nanna and Grandad Doris and Ed Galway, Grandma and Grandpa Eileen and Charles, Aunts Mary-Joan Galway and Carolyn Cleland, Uncles John Galway and Rod MacDonald, and her precious pets, Sabrina, Timmy and Tommy.
Born and raised in Hamilton, she had an idyllic childhood, with a menagerie of pets always around her. As a doctor’s daughter, she cared equally deeply for people and animals and knew from a young age that her vocation was to be in healthcare. She attended Carleton University in Ottawa, where, in second year, she met the love of her life, Dan, whom she knew from first sight she would spend her life with, as did he. After attending nursing school at McMaster University, she found her true calling as a labour and delivery nurse at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. Helping to bring babies into the world and taking care of new mothers was so fulfilling to her and she was an incredible nurse.
Her greatest joy was her children and the family she and Dan created together. They enjoyed so many good years, with many weekends at the family cottage in Thornbury where Dan and the kids skied and raced at Georgian Peaks and she leisurely waited for them in the ski lodge by the fire. Their Georgian Peaks friend group provided her years of camaraderie and fun. She and Dan had wonderful adventures together, particularly in Hawaii, her happy place, and she loved to reminisce and her ability to remember every detail was remarkable.
Elizabeth always led with her heart and gave her time and help selflessly. She would be the first to be at someone’s side in their time of need and provide comfort, help and advice, medical and otherwise. She was known for her generosity of spirit and for her ability to find humour in everything and laugh with those around her. She loved celebrations and had an incredible memory for anniversaries of every kind.
The last years of her life were a challenging health journey but she navigated them with incredible strength and courage. She persevered and fought, when others would have already given up. She was sustained always by the love she had for Dan, each other’s best friend and soul mate, and for Gabriella and Sebastian, her pride and joy; their well-being and happiness her only concern.
Elizabeth will be deeply missed, and her spirit will live on in our hearts. We will always remember and admire her strength, courage and grace.
