In Celebration of

Elizabeth Carr

November 13, 1928 -  December 2, 2022

Elizabeth (Beth) Carr (nee Jones), loving sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and great aunt, passed away suddenly and bravely (as was her nature) at Etobicoke General Hospital on December 2, 2022, at the age of 94.

Born and raised in Gravenhurst, Ontario, Beth and her twin sister Martha (Pat) were only 15 when they lost both their parents just several months apart. They moved to Toronto to be with their eldest sister Linda and her family, studied at Toronto Business School, and entered the work force as soon as they were able. A few years later, Beth met and married Albert (Ab) Carr with whom she created a warm and loving home and raised three children. Then, at an age when most people are beginning to contemplate retirement, she returned to work, meeting the challenge like any other she faced - head-on.

Beth loved life and made friends easily everywhere she went. Whether in her community, workplace, or church, her kindness, thoughtfulness, sense of humour, and genuine interest in other people attracted many admirers and she was often regarded as a "second Mom". She was the type of person who quietly ensured that a lonely neighbour would receive a home-cooked meal on special occasions.

But her principal focus in life was always her family - her own children/grandchildren/ great grandchildren and all her extended family members. Fiercely proud of her Welsh heritage, she maintained a lifelong contact with relatives still in Wales. One of four girls in her family, she had close friendships with her three sisters and became a doting aunt and great aunt to succeeding generations. As the last surviving member of the four "Jones Girls", as they came to be known, she became information central for family members to stay in touch. And her ability to remember birthdays of family and friends with a timely card and/or phone call was legendary.

Predeceased by her sisters Linda (Charlie) Coles, Mauvie Jones, and Martha/Pat (Tom) Muskett. Beth, Mom, Grandma, Auntie Beth, G.G. Beth will be sorely missed by her three children, Ab (Marilyn), Lou-Anne, and Bill (Ranissah) as well as her grandchildren Holly Carr (Brent Proudfoot), Adam Carr (Jemile Amador), Robyn Carr, and Jacob Carr, and her great grandsons Xavier and Diego Carr. Her numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and friends will also miss her quiet but ever-interested presence in their lives.

A celebration of Beth's life will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Giles Kingsway Presbyterian Church, 15 Lambeth Road, Toronto.

Donations in Beth's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.

Beth was a faithful, supportive and gracious member of St. Giles Kingsway for many years. I'm thankful to have got to know her over these past ten years and to know that she loved the Lord Jesus and did not fear the end. A humorous recent interaction with her happened on her last Birthday. When I wished her a 'Happy Birthday' in a congregational e-mail I called her "Miss Beth Carr" (Nov. 13, 2022) - she responded - Thank you for kindly acknowledging my birthday however I stopped being "Miss" Carr in 1950. Many Blessings - Beth!!
