In Celebration of

Elgeniusz "Gary" Curkan

October 4, 1952 -  February 4, 2023

It’s with great sadness that the family announces that Elgeniusz "Gary" Curkan passed away suddenly on February 4, 2023 at the age of 70.

Gary grew up in Toronto as part of a large, loud and loving Polish Ukrainian family.
He spent his working life as a proud postie at Canada Post for more than 35 years until his retirement.
In retirement, he spent time helping family and friends and delighted in the exploits and accomplishments of his grandkids, Troy Black (Diane), Katelyn Curkan, Korina Black, Trent Black and Sophia Curkan; and beloved pets.

He was an ardent Bills fan and loved to spend Sunday afternoons watching the game at his daughter Niki’s house with family.

He is pre-deceased by his father Nicholas and mother Joanna. He will be sorely missed by his wife Barbara (nee Goakery); children Gary (Sharon) and Nikole (Chris); his grandchildren; his siblings, Rusty Mishalkowsky (Walter), Chrystyna Waters (Glen), Roman Curkan, Zenon Curkan (Kelly Anne), and Anita Curkan; as well as his many cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews; past and present posties and beloved friends including his Facebook community.

His sense of humour was legendary and he will be keenly missed. There are too many stories to share in this small space.

Visitation will be at Turner and Porter Peel Chapel (2180 Hurontario St, Mississauga) on Thursday February 9 from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm. There will be a brief program at the evening visitation and anyone wishing to speak will be welcome to do so.

His ashes will be put to rest at St. John’s Dixie Cemetery in Mississauga (where his mother and father are also at rest) at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice would be most welcome.

Please spread the word to anyone we may have missed.

We had such good times, you and Barb, Bob and me. Dinners shared, parties, philosophical discussions, B52'S, Halloween and long talks on the phone after we moved.
Nothing but good memories.
Love Anne
PS: See you when (if) I get I get to heaven.
