In Celebration of

Eleanor Harley

February 6, 1937 -  October 16, 2019

On Wednesday, October 16th 2019 at 6:30 PM, Eleanor Harley passed away at the age of 82 at Brantford General Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born on February 6th, 1937 in Toronto to William David Carleill and Alma Mildred (Heasman) Hall. Her early life was lived in multiple foster homes, resulting in the fiercely independent spirit we all knew she had. She would go on to meet and marry Douglas John Harley. Together they raised two sons, Michael John Albert Harley, born in 1961, and Shawn Timothy Harley, born in 1965. Throughout her years of employment, she worked at Canadian Admiral, Massey Ferguson, and finally at Walmart.

Throughout her life, she knew she had siblings that were born after her to her parents but was never able to meet them. In 1990, she reached out to her sister and was warmly embraced by her sister Marilyn, her late brother David and her late mother Alma, resulting in so many new and wonderful memories that she couldn’t have ever dreamt of.

Eleanor had many passions and hobbies. She single-handedly built and tended to a beautiful garden and loved spending time outdoors. She always had a soft spot for all critters that graced her doorstep. She never missed an episode of Coronation Street.

During her time in Brantford, she built a network of friends that gave back all the love that she gave to them. Everyone raved about her famous Harley Spaghetti Dinners. She loved spending quality time with her family and cherished her many adventures with them. She was a world traveller, having been to Hawaii, England, Florida and Panama and always looked back on those trips fondly.

The family would like to send special thanks to the staff at the Brantford General Hospital’s Critical Care Unit for the compassionate care that they provided for her in her final days.

She is survived by her sons Michael (Kelly) and Shawn (Zofia); her grandchildren Aleksandra, Anna, and Jessica (Andrew); and her great-grandchildren Connor and Emma. Eleanor will also be dearly missed by her sister Marilyn and her family.

A public visitation will be held at the Turner & Porter Neweduk-Erin Mills Chapel at 1981 Dundas Street West in Mississauga on Sunday, October 20th from 2 - 4 PM.

While flowers are appreciated, the family would love it if donations could be made in Eleanor's name to either the Brant County SPCA or the Brant Community Healthcare System Foundation.

My deepest condolences to the Harley family. Eleanor was a loving friend to my Mother, Gloria Lune for many years. Their friendship started at Massey Ferguson and Eleanor loved to always share how they met. It was a friendship that lasted and grew with the fondest memories.

Eleanor's memory will live eternally and the love for her will live forever.

Sending strength and love, xo
