In Celebration of

Edward Lipka

October 1, 1921 -  February 25, 2019

After a brief illness, Eddie passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 97. Beloved husband of the late Kathleen and loving father of Frank (Jeanette). Cherished grandfather of Logan, Brooklyn, Mitchell and the late Braeden.

Growing up during The Great Depression established a solid work ethic and commitment to family that Eddie maintained throughout his life. His grandchildren were always advised to “stay in school, work hard and don’t hang out with deadbeats and freeloaders”.

Eddie’s passion for sports and fitness continued well into his final years. As a youth, he swam and lifted weights at the YMCA with his brothers, travelled to the US with Stan for baseball, and coached his son Frank for many years. Eddie was a proud grandfather as he watched his grandchildren participate in hockey, baseball and gymnastics.

Eddie will be fondly remembered by family and friends for his “Lipka Stories”. Countless stories about his childhood ~ as a young boy working at the Royal Winter Fair to get fresh milk for the family ~ St. Mary’s school ~ his mother and seven siblings - Joe, Stan, Freddie, John, Matt, Stella & Jean ~ winning at “the track” ~ Massey Ferguson and of course, baseball.

His many stories about playing baseball with his brothers in Stanley Park in Toronto are legendary.

Eddy was always there full of life stories that we all loved. The father of our wonderful son-in-law that shows what a great job he did as a father. I am sure Kay was waiting there for him to hear all his stories about our Grandchildren. Rest in peace Eddy you will be missed.

Dear Frank and family,

We just wanted to pass on our most deepest sympathies on the loss of your amazing father. Uncle Eddie was the last of a great breed of Lipka’s that will never be replaced. He was a strong, hard headed, kind, loving father and husband that was passionate about life and truly dedicated to his family.

I remember those days Frank, I’m sure you do as well, when Brian and I would stay overnight at your place and have a blast. And remember when Uncle Eddie would come down to the basement to call us for dinner and say Jesus C***** what the hell are you guys doing down here!

I also remember him doing his workouts in the basement and watching him lift weights and taunting us about how much more he could lift then all of us put together. He would also brag about how he could take all of us in a fight, even if we attacked him all at once. What a macho dude!

And of course, who can forget the lovely car rides with him to the store and how, during the trip, he would weave a silique of swear words together when some “moron” would cut him off. And of course, who could ever forget the famous occasion where he chased a guy to the store after he had cut him off. Uncle Eddie waited till the guy got out of his car and then he ran over to let some of the air out of his tires. Good thing there were no cell phones back then or the guy would have called the cops on him!

We are all going to miss your dad but take solace in the fact that we were privileged to have been able to spend some great times with him and your family. We know that wherever he is, he will be making that place a much more interesting and exciting one and I’m sure will whip them all into great shape!

Sincerely Yours,
Robert, Ragini and Anjali
