I have known Ed for many years and looked forward to speaking with him each year at the Mansfield Memorial Day Services.
He was always at good humour and enjoyed a joke or two.
So sorry for your loss Joanna.
I will miss Ed a lot.

For his age, Ed was always young, there wasn't a single conversation that I didn't enjoy. Whether it was foreign policy or Downsview he had a great memory and lots to pass on. He always made an effort to connect with the kids, and was always playful and fun. We didn't see him often, but he was always memorable. I will miss those conversations.

Thinking of you at this difficult time. Cherish the many memories you shared.

Ed was my uncle and only sibling of my father John Bates,

My uncle was a constant presence in my life, there were very few birthdays, holidays or life events that he was not part of. He had an amazing memory and always knew what the weather was or what current events were happening wherever I was living (Yukon, Nunavut). There is now another empty seat at our family table.

Uncle Ed; we will think about you always, we will talk about you still, you will will never be forgotten, until we meet again

My deepest condolences Joanna. I enjoyed so many dinners with you and Ed at Eva's house over the years and I am truly saddened to hear of his passing. Take comfort in knowing he is with his dear brother John and safe and loved. He will be sorely missed.
