Edith Sernas
February 14, 1928 - October 28, 2013
It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to Edith, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on October 28, 2013. As she wished, Edith was able to be cared for in her own home until the end.
Her life was her family. She leaves behind her loving husband of 53 years, Gytis Martin Sernas, her daughters Asta (Vic), Vida (Alan) and Silvia (Alvin). She was the devoted and much loved Nana to her seven grandchildren, Daina, Vytas, Erika, Aleksa, Romas, Serena and Andrius. Edith also leaves behind her sister Gerda Sillaots, sister-in-laws Irena, Aldona and Jone, brother-in-laws Jim, Paulius and Valentinas as well as many nieces and nephews.
Edith was born in Klaipeda, Lithuania. In 1947, she came to Canada where she met the love of her life, Gytis. Together they built a beautiful life. She helped him to establish a successful consulting engineering firm working initially as the office secretary and eventually as the office manager. Edith, in her quiet way, always provided support to both her husband and her daughters allowing them to grow and flourish.
In their retirement years, she and Gytis enjoyed travelling the world. They spent many winters in Tierra Verde, Florida and summers at their home on Lake Sylvid where they enjoyed country living. Their warm home was where they entertained with open arms and was where they hosted many memorable family holidays and celebrations.
The last year and a half Edith was lovingly looked after by her daughters and caregivers Kathy and Mariquita. Their compassionate and expert care will always be remembered and appreciated.
